Turn to Teaching Internship Program

If you have a Bachelor鈥檚 degree and are looking for a career change, this is your opportunity to become a Primary or Secondary teacher.

We are excited to announce the Department of Education will again partner with the 51茶馆 to deliver the Turn to Teaching program in 2026.

Who can apply for Turn to Teaching?

This program is for degree-qualified early or mid-career professionals who want to become a teacher. Therefore, any university students in their final year of a non-teaching degree may be interested, or any prospective ITE students who have previously completed a non-teaching degree. Plus any relevant networks.

What does the Turn to Teaching program involve?

This two-year supported pathway helps you enter the classroom in just 12 months, with a $20,000 scholarship and a paid internship teaching position while studying, plus a guaranteed permanent teaching position on program completion.

Applications open on 25 August and close on 21 September, 2025.

Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary)

If you have a bachelor degree in a field other than education and want to become a registered primary teacher, the Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary) is for you. Become a primary school teacher in 18 months and inspire the next generation.

Master of Learning and Teaching (Secondary)

Be equipped with the teaching methods, behaviour management skills, and confidence to work, inspire and educate adolescents and young adults. If you already have a bachelor degree in another discipline, the Master of Learning and Teaching (Secondary) allows you to become a registered high school teacher in just 18 months.
