Rationale
Today’s digital economy and the requirements of digital information are considered the backbone of competitive advantage for any business. Businesses today are embracing technology and information to engage with customers in unique and innovative ways.
Students must have some basic knowledge of how ICT can be aligned with the business strategy. The management of the process for planning and integrating new digital capabilities into the business processes and business model. They also need to have the understanding of how the alignment is implemented to realise the digital capabilities into the business operation, in order for the companies to be effective within the digital economy. In order to reinforce the theoretical concepts, various innovative technologies and information systems are used as case studies so that the application of the business processes, systems and implementation can be properly understood, leading to hands-on experience.
Synopsis
This course will cover a range of topics ensuring that there is a business perspective on how any new technical capabilities will be integrated into the business, including planning around in basic blocks associated with enterprise planning and implementation namely - strategic planning, business architecture, information architecture, technical architecture and strategic management. In order to reinforce the theoretical concepts, various innovative technologies and information systems are used as case studies so that the application of the business processes, systems and implementation can be properly understood, and align with the overall plan.
Participants will gain skills in determining initiation of business implementation plans, including all the activities that the business needs and their implementation value to enterprises. This is done using approaches for researching, analysing and synthesising them from sources ranging from learned to professional journals. Learners are expected to critically analyse and apply these skills to various innovative technologies and information systems to reinforce the theoretical concepts learned in the course.
NOTE: Learners undertaking this course are required to have the ability to research with an understanding of ethical research practices. Learners are also expected to critically analyse and solve problems arising in complex organisational real-life situations.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- apply the process for deploying and integrations of business systems and associated information and communication technologies (ICT);
- critically evaluate a business innovative technologies and information systems related case study to demonstrate implication in a given context;
- identify and resolve ICT issues that are relevant to enterprises in the context of the planning and implementation of innovative technologies and information systems;
- communicate in writing and orally to technical and non-technical audiences, and present effectively, at the appropriate level, by whatever discourse, the knowledge obtained from this course;
- evaluate and apply implication of the importance of governance, ethical considerations security and risk in the processes of deploying and integrations in a ICT products.
